The mid-infrared band is an interesting part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which is composed of colors that are invisible to the human eye. Many chemical molecules resonate when illuminated by infrared light. This infrared resonance can be used to identify the "fingerprint" signature of a molecule or acquisition molecule. Therefore, the infrared band is useful for a series of applications such as air pollution monitoring, detection of explosives and anesthetic drugs, and food quality testing. However, infrared optical components tend to be bulky, expensive, and untunable.
According to a report by the James Consulting Group, researchers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and Dalian University of Technology (DUT) and Singapore Synchrotron Radiation Source (SSLS) have jointly demonstrated that they are common in data. The tunable phase change material of the storage device can be used to tune the response of a micro-sized infrared transmission "super-surface" filter. The filter can be tuned over a wide band of the mid-infrared spectrum, where many polluting gases generate vibration.
Robert Simpson, principal researcher and assistant professor at SUTD, said: "These IR filters are very small and can even be integrated into smartphones. They help users achieve a variety of measurement applications, such as measuring the quality of oil used to fry food, breathing. Air quality, or by measuring body fluids discharged from the body to check the health of the body."
The research, published in the journal Advanced Optical Materials, is known for publishing breakthrough interdisciplinary research, focusing on the interaction of light and matter.
