Renishaw, the world's leading measurement specialist, has released the XM-60 multi-beam laser interferometer to measure all six degrees of freedom of the linear axis in any direction with a single setup. Compared to traditional laser measurement technology, the XM-60 offers significant improvements in ease of use and time savings.
As tolerances on workpieces become higher and higher, manufacturers need to consider all sources of error from machine tool machining; angular errors and linear and straightness errors. The XM-60 collects all errors with one setup. Designed for the machine tool market, this multi-beam laser interferometer complements the Renishaw calibration product line including the XL-80 laser interferometer, the XR20-W wireless rotary axis calibration unit and the QC20-W wireless ballbar. . The XM-60 uses the XC-80 environmental compensator to compensate for environmental conditions.
The XM-60 multi-beam laser interferometer is a high-precision laser system with its patented optical roll measurement and fiber optic transmitter. The light emitter is kept away from the laser source, reducing the thermal effects at the measurement point. The transmitter can be mounted directly to the machine from its side or even behind, or upside down, making it ideal for inaccessible machine areas.
Reducing the uncertainty of the measurement is very important to any user. The Renishaw XM-60 directly measures machine tool errors and reduces errors in the use of complex mathematical calculations in other measurement techniques. Direct measurement allows quick and easy comparison of the accuracy of the machine before and after adjustment with the user's existing XL-80 measuring part program. The receiver is fully wireless and is powered by a rechargeable battery to avoid cable drag during machine movement, as cable dragging can cause errors or the laser beam is "broken" during the measurement process.
XM-60 measures 6 degrees of freedom
To support the introduction of the XM-60 multi-beam laser interferometer, Renishaw will release a new version of the CARTO software package to guide users through the measurement process. CARTO 2.0 includes Capture and Explore, and is currently used for data acquisition and analysis of the XL-80 laser interferometer system. The CARTO user interface can be easily configured to suit different user needs, changing black and white backgrounds and displaying customizations. Support for tablets with an extended menu section for operation on small screens. The test method is automatically saved, so users who repeat the test can call an earlier test. The performance of each XM-60 multi-beam laser interferometer is traceable to international standards and has been certified prior to shipment. This allows customers to be confident that their systems will continue to provide high-precision measurements wherever accuracy is critical.
Capture 2.0 offers a new part program generator that supports Series controllers such as Fanuc 30, Heidenhain 530, Mazak Matrix, and Siemens 840D, and will support more controller types in future releases. Another advanced feature is to automatically set the delay time based on the user-selected averaging period in the program and support timing acquisition through the Time Match mode when using the XL-80 system. In XM-60 mode, Capture 2.0 uses the calibration gauge straightness measurement function, which is more convenient.
XM-60 multi-beam laser interferometer working on a machine
The XM-60 provides users with powerful machine diagnostics that measure all degrees of freedom after a move. By acquiring three linear error sources and three rotational error sources at a time in any measurement, the user can find their specific error source; when only measuring linear accuracy, the effect of each error source on linear accuracy is seen instead of Specific error source. All data is processed using the Explore 2.0 application, providing a summary view of all six data channels, each of which can be displayed according to a corresponding set of international standards. Large amounts of data can be easily managed in Explore 2.0. User-defined tags can be assigned to any test or test group saved in the database, and these tags can be used for data filtering.
The Renishaw XM-60 multi-beam laser interferometer is housed in a rugged PeliTM system carrying case with enough space for accessories and XC-80 compensator components. This carrying case can be used for the safe storage and transportation of laser systems. In many applications, the laser device can perform measurements without taking it out of the carrying case, simplifying operation. An optional clamp assembly is provided for mounting the XM-60 on the machine, which is stored in a carrying case for easy transport.
