Renny Ramakers, founder and director of Droog Design, a synonym for modern Dutch design

Less talk about style, talk more about feelings

Renny Ramakers

One of the founders and directors of Droog Design.

He has published articles on design in several international magazines; his designs have been exhibited many times in museums and exhibition venues; he has written university design courses; he has lectured and hosted workshops around the world.

From 1995 to 2001, he was a member of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Official Advisory Office of the Dutch Ministry of Culture.

In 2002, he published the book "Less & More. Droog Design in Context"; in the same year, he became a member of the board of Stichting Archis.

Renny Ramakers is one of the founders and directors of the Dutch design group Droog Design. In 1993, she and another Dutchman, designer Gijs Bakker, founded Droog Design, now known as “a synonym for modern Dutch design”. Prior to this, Renny was an art historian and worked as an editor in a design magazine.

Since its debut in Amsterdam, Droog Design has become the focus of the international design community and was lauded at the International Furniture Fair in Milan in the same year, setting its unshakable position in the design world. As a loose designer group, Droog Design has a large number of designers ranging in age from 23 to 63. The styles vary, and each piece reflects the designer's personal feelings and artistic power, but it is rare that They are fully integrated under the brand "Droog", which makes people have to admire the leader's unique vision and superb grasp.

In January 2005, as one of the speakers at the "Whats good?" forum in Hong Kong, Renny's topic was "The human touch." She argues that design is not a “design object” and cannot be simply measured and judged by functionality and aesthetics. The standard of good design changes with time and space, but whenever and wherever, “Feeling Good” is always more meaningful than “Looking good”. Much more.

During the forum, someone asked Renny why the price of your products is so high? Renny's answer is straightforward: "We are not 'IKEA' 1
