The world's leading optical network solution provider Xtera Communications (Xtera CommunicaTIons, Inc.) and Cable & Wireless CommunicaTIons Caribbean branch company LIME has successfully completed the laying of the Caribbean east-west cable network.
This 1,700-kilometer, multi-million-dollar submarine cable runs through Jamaica, the British Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. The ultra-high bandwidth transmission system provided by it enhances LIME's position as the premier supplier of voice, data and emerging multimedia service wholesale capabilities in the Caribbean.
LIME's business scope includes consumers and commercial users in 14 Caribbean islands. This submarine cable will help LIME meet the growing high-speed bandwidth requirements of these users. At the same time, it will also promote the launch of a new type of fixed broadband and mobile data services that LIME has developed to meet customer demand for high-quality bandwidth support.
In addition, the network will enhance the service capacity of LIME Headquarters CWC to customers in North America and Latin America.
LIME commissioned Xtera to implement the planning, design, construction, installation, commissioning and project management of the submarine optical cable project. The network uses Xtera's NXT submarine line terminal equipment and related management equipment. In addition to the initial transmission capacity of 120Gb / s, it can also be upgraded to 720Gb / s through the provided technology. If there are technical updates in the future, the transmission capacity of the system may be further improved.
Xtera's NXT is a high-performance submarine line terminal that supports new deployments and provides significant bandwidth upgrades for existing systems. It can transmit multiple traffic types such as Gigabit Ethernet and SONET / SDH at different line rates-in this case, NXT provides some 2.5G interfaces to carry existing traffic. Because NXT can provide high capacity with narrow-bandwidth cables, NXT also extends the life of the original investment, which is also a key technical requirement for LIME to reuse existing cables.
Patrik Bradd, Chief Technology Officer of LIME, said: "LIME has been working closely with Xtera Communications for many years. We are pleased to be able to attract them to join the cable trunking program and take advantage of its experience in global project management."
Xona Communications CEO Jon Hopper said: "Xtera has participated in many projects in the Caribbean and Latin America. We are very happy to be a partner of LIME again to develop infrastructure for consumers and commercial customers in the region. Support multimedia communication services. "
