Basic lighting terminology for LED

Lighting terminology in the LED industry is a great help for us to better understand and use lighting products:

Luminous flux: symbol, unit lumen Lm, indicating: the sum of the amount of light emitted by the illuminator per second, that is, the luminous flux.

Light intensity: symbol I, unit candela cd, indicates: the luminous flux emitted by the illuminant position within a single solid angle in a particular direction.

Illuminance: symbol E, unit lux Lm/m2, indicating: the luminous flux of the illuminant on the unit area of the illuminated object.

Luminance: symbol L, unit Nyed cd/m2, indicating: luminous flux of the illuminant in a unit of solid angle unit area in a specific direction.

Light efficiency: Units per watt lumen Lm/w, indicating: The ability of an electric light source to convert electrical energy into light, expressed as the luminous flux emitted divided by the power consumption.

Average life: unit hours, description: refers to the number of hours when a batch of bulbs is damaged to 50%.

Economic life: Unit hours, indicating that the combined beam output is reduced to a specific number of hours while considering both bulb damage and beam output attenuation. This ratio is 70% for outdoor light sources and 80% for indoor light sources such as fluorescent lamps.

Color temperature: When the color of the light emitted by the light source is the same as the color of the black body at a certain temperature, the temperature of the black body is called the color temperature of the light source. The color temperature of the light source is different, the light color is also different, the color temperature is below 3300K, there is a stable atmosphere, the warm feeling; the color temperature is 3000-5000K for the intermediate color temperature, and there is a refreshing feeling; the color temperature is cold feeling above 5000K. Different light colors of different light sources constitute the best environment, color temperature>5000k: light color is cool type (white with blue), cold atmosphere effect; color temperature is 3300-5000K: light color is middle (white), refreshing atmosphere. Effect; color temperature

Color rendering: The color rendering of a light source is indicated by the color rendering index, which indicates that the color deviation of an object under light illumination compared to the reference light (sunlight) can more fully reflect the color characteristics of the light source. There are two kinds of color development: faithful color development, which can correctly represent the original color of the material. A light source with a high color rendering index (Ra) is required. The value is close to 100, and the color rendering property is the best; the effect color is developed, and the specific color is emphasized sharply. The beauty of life can use the additive color method to enhance the color rendering effect. Since the composition of the spectrum in the light is different, the color rendering of the lamp may be different even if the color of the light is the same.

Luminaire efficiency: also known as the light output coefficient, is an important criterion for measuring the energy efficiency of a luminaire. It is the ratio between the light energy output by the luminaire and the light energy output from the luminaire.
