This easy-to-use, new audio feature is part of the latest release of the HDMI 2.1 specification. eARC technology is developed by the HDMI Forum, which consists of more than 80 industry-leading consumer electronics companies.

As the founder, contributor and adopter of the HDMI standard, Lattice continues to maintain its market leadership with the newly released HDMI 2.1 product supporting eARC technology. eARC enables audio devices to work seamlessly with televisions. Device selection and volume control are controlled by the TV remote control, eliminating the need for additional operations on the audio device. The eARC uses two pins of the HDMI interface (the same functions as the HDMI Ethernet channel) to transmit low-jitter, high-bandwidth audio and two-way communication signals for audio function discovery and control. This is a significant improvement over the old TOSLINK and SPDIF audio outputs, which require separate cables and connectors and do not provide the communication support required between the audio device and the TV.
