Thoughts on the Future Development of China's Lighting Industry

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of China Lighting Association, we launched a series of activities with the theme of “Review and Prospect”. The main purpose is to review the development history of China's lighting industry over the past 20 years, and look forward to the next 5-10 years. The road to the development of China's lighting industry.

1. Twenty years of brief review

Twenty years ago, in 1989, after China’s decade of reform and opening up, China’s economic development model was in the period of transition from a planned economy to a market economy. At that time, the situation of China's lighting electrical industry was: enterprises were mainly state-owned enterprises and collective enterprises, and township enterprises were still in their infancy. In terms of product structure, the electric light source is mainly composed of ordinary incandescent lamp and T12 fluorescent lamp. The ratio of incandescent lamp to fluorescent lamp is 8:1. The HID lamp is mainly composed of high-pressure mercury lamp and high-pressure sodium lamp. The metal halide lamp has not been put into production. There are not many lamps and lanterns enterprises, and there are few varieties of products. The products mainly meet the needs of the domestic market, and the export is less, about 100 million US dollars.

Twenty years later, China has become a major producer of global lighting products. In 2008, the industry's sales reached 230 billion yuan, and exports reached 16.2 billion US dollars. The products are exported to more than 170 countries and regions around the world. The number of enterprises is about 10,000, and the scale of the company is gradually expanding and its strength is enhanced. The product variety covers almost all existing lighting products. In recent years, the energy-efficient products in electric light source products have grown substantially. The ratio of incandescent lamps to fluorescent lamps has changed from 8:1 20 years ago to 1:1.2 today. High-efficiency lighting products such as compact fluorescent lamps, T5, T8 trichromatic fluorescent lamps, and metal halide lamps have been rapidly developed. In the past 20 years, the lamps and lanterns have developed more rapidly. Various types of indoor and outdoor lamps have been produced, and the quality level has been continuously improved, meeting the increasing demands of domestic and foreign markets.

In the face of economic globalization and the global response to climate change, how to develop China's lighting industry in the next 5 to 10 years is a question worthy of serious consideration in the industry. The following is only a few personal views on the company, products, technology and talents, with a view to discussing with the industry.

2. Enterprise development strategy

At present, the characteristics of China's lighting enterprises are large in number and small in scale. Compared with the world famous lighting companies PHILIPS, 0SRAM and GE, they all have a history of more than 100 years, with annual sales of several billion or even billions of dollars. The largest corporate sales in China are only a few hundred million dollars. It is hoped that China's lighting companies will have a number of enterprises with sales exceeding 10 billion yuan in the next 5 to 10 years.

2.1 The current structure of China's lighting companies

From the perspective of enterprise nature, at present, except for a few foreign-owned enterprises and joint ventures in China's lighting industry, most of them are private enterprises. State-owned enterprises have basically withdrawn from the lighting industry.

There are four listed companies, namely: Foshan Electrical and Lighting Co., Ltd., Zhejiang Sunshine Group Co., Ltd., Shanghai Feile Audio and Video Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Xuelaite Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. At present, there are still a number of enterprises listed in domestic and overseas listings. Listed companies have advantages in financing, which is conducive to enterprises becoming bigger and stronger. Non-listed companies also have the opportunity to become bigger and stronger. For example, Op, Sanxiong and so on have developed very well in recent years. Another characteristic of the lighting industry is that through years of development, a number of industrial clusters have been formed, such as Zhongshan Guzhen Town, which is mainly decorated with decorative lamps, and Yuyao Liangong, Jiangsu, and Jiangsu Gaoyou, which are mainly outdoor lamps, to produce energy-saving lamps. The main Linan of Zhejiang, Jianhu of Jiangsu and so on. The development of these industrial clusters is conducive to the formation of the industrial chain, giving play to the advantages of the corporate group, but the problem is how to improve the quality and grade of the products. Therefore, we must do a good job in the leading role of the leading enterprises, the survival of the fittest in development, the development of Zhejiang Jinyun This is the embodiment of this.

2.2 Ways for the company to grow and develop

There are many ways for enterprises to grow and develop. There are four types of lighting companies in China:

(1) Take advantage of existing products and expand production scale

This model is fully reflected in the compact fluorescent lamp manufacturing industry in the last decade. But the final scale of this model is limited because the products are relatively single. Therefore, it is necessary for such enterprises to plan ahead and plan for sustainable development for future development.

(2) Expand product line, multi-variety supporting development

This model has certain universality, such as the original light source-based enterprises to produce electrical appliances and lamps, the original lighting-based enterprises and the production of light sources, etc., with the expansion of the scale of enterprises, such enterprises are gradually increasing. Faced with certain advantages in the market, it is expected that this model will continue to develop in the future.
