Enea and ASTRI Announce: ASTRI's Enea Fast Path Product as Reference Design for 5G Base Stations

On June 4, 2018, Enea (NASDAQ Stockholm: ENEA), a global provider of high-performance network software platforms, and the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTA) announced that ASIA has adopted Enea Fast Path products as 5G. The high performance user space IP protocol stack in the base station reference design. The IP solution is complemented by the Data Surface Acceleration Kit (DPDK) and the next-generation Ultra-Dense Network (UDN) scenario.

Enea and ASTRI Announce: ASTRI's Enea Fast Path Product as Reference Design for 5G Base Stations

The performance of Enea Fast Path outperforms other solutions in a detailed assessment. ASTRI's 5G reference design uses Enea Fast Path as part of the 5G data plane to terminate UDP packets on the Centralized Control Unit (CU), so customers using ASTRI's 5G technology to build solutions will also benefit from Enea The best performance from Fast Path.

ASTRI's 5G base station reference design is fully applicable to the latest 3GPP Release 15 for the 5G New Radio (NR) standard. Based on the x86 general purpose processor platform, it supports Network Function Virtualization (NFV). The design supports different scenarios for 5G traffic, such as enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) and ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC). This reference design provides commercial-grade quality and is ideal for 5G indoor UDN deployments.

Enea Fast Path is a cross-platform user space IP protocol stack that optimizes telecommunications and networking applications running DPDK. Not only is it compatible with the open source project Open Fast Path, it also significantly improves performance and combines commercial-grade support and maintenance services. Enea Fast Path linearly scales throughput with an increased number of cores, leveraging the power of multi-core devices for extremely high application performance.

“We are very pleased to work with Enea to make our latest 5G network reference design more complete.” Dr. Zhuang Zheyi, Vice President of the New Generation Communications Network Division of ASTRI, said: “Accord is committed to its franchise industry partners. Providing powerful solutions that will drive our R&D results.” Enea has proven expertise and offers carrier-grade solutions to many of the industry's leading telecommunications equipment suppliers, with Enea Fast Path Combined with ASTRI's 5G base station, it will help optimize the overall system performance of the solution.

“Accord is a pioneer in developing key support technologies for public and private mobile 5G networks,” said Adrian Leufvén, senior vice president of Enea. “We are delighted to work with them and use Enea's 5G project; this collaboration confirms our leadership in high-performance 5G applications.”
