IBM is in a difficult position in the server and storage systems market. IDC believes that IBM’s share in the global storage system market has dropped from 12.7% in the same period last year to 9% (for Tier 3). HP's situation is slightly better. The market share of white-brand hardware manufacturers favored by giants such as Google, Facebook and Amazon continues to increase. IDC estimates that the market share of such servers has increased from 6.4% to 8.2%, and the market share of such storage systems has increased from 9.9% to 12.8%.

X86 server revenue increased by 7.1% to US$11.5 billion (approximately RMB70.8 billion). Due to the declining demand for mainframe and UNIX servers, non-X86 server revenue declined by 14% to US$3 billion (approximately RMB18.5 billion).
