Below is the circuit diagram of the lightning detector circuit

This circuit is a low frequency receiver that is tuned to 300 kHz to detect near lightning cracks. A bright light flashes the distance from the lightning and the intensity of the storm. Figure 1 shows a simple receiver with a tuned driver circuit amplifier modified by a flash. The flasher is biased to not flicker until the burst of RF energy is amplified by the 2N3904, which is suitable for use on the 2N4403 base. The receiver standby current is 350 microamps.
